Do Christians have to be pro life? Is it ever ok to have an abortion?

Proponents of pro-choice argue that abortion protects the health and wellbeing of women and of children. They also believe abortion is not murder of meaningful life, and the woman’s rights trumps the rights of their non-autonomous dependent entity, their unborn child.

Yet, we believe that we must be a voice for the voiceless, and stand for the rights of the unborn baby and be pro-life. Human life begins at conception. All women and men have intrinsic value and worth as images of God. Abortion denies the voice of the most vulnerable. Even women who have raised children conceived through their rape have not regretted aborting their child. On the other hand, 80% of those who have aborted their child have regretted it.

What we ought to do is extend love, care, hope, and healing to those who have not aborted their baby. Pray, consider foster care and adoption, or provide financial provision to those who cannot afford to raise their child. In all we say and do, let us continue to point to the love and forgiveness found in Christ.
