God vs The Church

Matthew 5:13-16

The world sees the church as judgemental, hurtful, and poisonous. Spiritual manipulation, child abuse, greed, silence, and hypocrisy abound. We have failed to love God and failed to love our neighbour. We must recognise that the church has sinned and fallen short of reflecting God’s glory. We must apologise for the things we have done as a church that have made our neighbours hate God. The church are rebellious sinners saved by God’s amazing grace alone. Christians will disappoint, but Christ is faithful. Only by God’s grace can we be characterised by humility and sacrificial love.

Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan to highlight the hypocrisy of the religious and teach us to love our enemies. In the end, Jesus is the one who saw our spiritual and moral bankruptcy, yet did not pass us by. He lived the life of obedience we should have lived, and died the death for sin we should have died.
