Prepare the Way of the Lord

Isaiah 40:1-31

We can be held captive by our circumstances but Christmas reminds us our current circumstances do not define us. Weighed down and paralysed by heavy burdens, Christmas helps us look back at where we've come from, and look ahead with hope to where we will be (heaven). God is greater than our circumstances. Judgement doesn't have the last word, and God will console his people with great comfort through his words.

Firstly, the word of pardon tells us that though we have sinned against God in thought, word, and action, God will speak tenderly to us and offer us rest in Him through Christ. Secondly, God gives a word of providence, showing us that he is before and behind us wherever we go as the Word made flesh who dwelled among us. Thirdly, there is a word of promise that only God's kingdom and word will last forever, that all his promises will come true. Lastly, there is a word of peace that the gospel of Jesus is good news of great joy. Knowing Jesus is the greatest peace of all.
