Rebellious Children

Isaiah 1:1-31

Isaiah, writing in the 8th Century BC, begins with a 360 degree review which exposes darkness through a hurting father, a hurting children, and a hideous religion.

God is a personal and intimate father who is not distant and uncaring toward what his children do, being broken over the depravity of his children who continually forget him and rebel against him. Estrangement from God through rebellion in sin has brought darkness, loneliness, emptiness, hurt, suffering, and death. Our sin has caused us hurt, and hurt the Father. Our religion, without relationship, is a hurt and broken religion. Our rituals, without restoring our relationship to the Father, is empty.

Still, there is a hint of hope: scarlet sins will be made white as snow. Restoration will come. There’s hope of sins that will be washed away, a city that will be made righteous and learn justice, and a people who will walk in the light of the Lord. Through the murder of God’s son, Jesus Christ, the light of God has shone through the darkness and consumed it. Jesus provides the way to clean our hands and hearts. Jesus provides the way to a restored family and a restored relationship to God and to one another. We are saved, and we are still being saved. Repent and know that God loves you, and wants to bandage your wounds.
