Two Ways To Live & One King To Follow
Psalm 1-2
Life is not the way it should be. Even when ‘Normal’ comes, life will still be riddled with isolation, fear, death, and injustice. Now, amidst COVID which threatens to take our physical breath away, we must take the time to breathe spiritually.
Psalm 1 shows us two ways to live: in wickedness soon to be blown away like chaff, or in righteousness like a strong tree planted by a stream. To be a tree, beware of what is influencing you, what is entertaining you, and what is shaping you. Do not listen to the counsel of the wicked. Delight in the Bible, and meditate on it. Know that trees take time to grow, but prosperity will come: not in the shape of riches, but in the shape of spiritual growth and peace.
In Psalm 2, we are reminded that there is only one King to follow: He who laughs at those who conspire against Him, terrifying them with His wrath. There are two ways to live: in rebellion to God, perishing in our rebellion like chaff in the wind; or by homage to the Son as the one true king, finding refuge and life in Him. Delight in Him, and breathe.

Khoi Phuong
Khoi is the Associate Pastor of City on a Hill Melbourne West. He has a deep heart for communities of life, love and mission, as he passionately wants to see the gospel of Jesus make an impact in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Khoi’s favourite community, of course, is at home with his wife and two boys. He is an avid sports fan who supports mostly losing teams – which keeps him pretty humble (and sad).
