Dating

Genesis 24:1-28

We live in a hookup culture of instant gratification. ‘The Bachelor’ is meant to be a story about love, but it often ends with 24 broken hearts. ‘Tinder’ leads to cheap intimacy and the objectification of men and women.

Sex is powerful, and a beautiful gift from God, but it should not be awoken before it's time, before marriage. We must look for and develop godliness in dating, using discernment if we choose to date online or blindly, dating only Christians so you can both point to Jesus. May we be sexually pure, respectful, knowing we are complete in Christ not in each other. Both singleness and marriage is good. Whatever we do, may we pursue Christ.

Dating is difficult because you're giving your love and affection to someone who can hurt you, but if you are in Christ, you are loved by someone who is always faithful, and you belong to the greatest love story of all time.

Brendan Wright

Brendan is one of the pastors at City on a Hill Geelong. He is passionate about making Jesus known to this city after making the move from Melbourne in 2013. Just before that move he got married and became the husband to Neema and the two of them are now well and truly settled in Geelong. Despite constant appeals and pleas from those within the church, he has stayed true to his roots and resisted the temptation to jump on the success of the new town team and still supports the Essendon Football Club.
