I Am the Resurrection and the Life

John 11:1-44

The glory of God is his self-revelation, and each miracle performed by Jesus manifested that glory. Jesus’ miracles and teachings all point to God, and to Christ being the resurrection and the life. Even now, God is able. Even while we wait for a miracle or an answer, God is able.

The shortest verse in the bible ‘Jesus wept’ shows us that Jesus cares. it shows us that Christ doesn’t turn his back against suffering, but weeps when he sees it. God is not distant or disinterested. He enters our tomb and embraces our death, being crucified for our sins.

When Mary poured an expensive nard on Jesus’ feet and cleaned his feet with her hair, she was worshipping. In her cultural context, women had to have their hair braided or hidden until their wedding night, so in untying her hair before Jesus she is demonstrating her devotion to Jesus as Lord.

Jesus rose to grant us new life with him; to grant us victory over sin, suffering, Satan, and death. There is life and hope for salvation for all who would trust in him.
