Faith and Words

James 3:1-12

It counts for nothing if you claim to be a Christian but use your tongue for malice to bring others down. We will give an account for our speech on judgement day. Everything we say can and will be used against us in the court of God's law.

We can use our tongues for good or for evil. Be careful what you say to others, and to yourself. Put lies, gossip, slander, and cursing to death. Know your mouth needs more than plastic surgery (superficial adjustments of our speech), but that our speech reflects our heart. A fig tree cannot produce olives. We cannot say we are something, when our attributes and speech reveal the opposite. If you find your speech is ungodly, repent and ask Jesus to change your heart. Know that the Word of God has the power to purify our words, and to forgive us when we've gone astray. As you live in relationship with God, let his spirit change your heart to speak the truth in love.
