Faith and the World

James 4:1-10

Quarreling kills community. When your heart is ruled by greed and envy, you won't serve others because you're so focused on serving yourself. The difficulties we face in our relationships shows the misplaced desires of our heart.

In the ancient world, friendship is a meaningful bond of loyal love which includes the sharing of worldviews. Friendship with the world is enmity with God, because it is self-serving. Desiring God and desiring the world do not live in harmony: they are opposing factions in war. May we resist the pull of the world and the devil, submitting instead to God in humility. Pride is the beginning of sin and conflict, but humility is the beginning of purity and reconciliation when we surrender our lives to Jesus' rule. Find your joy in God, rejecting the lures of the devil and genuinely repenting of sin.
